Coding and STEAM

Course: Thinging, Tinkering and 3D Printing in the Classroom

Course Description:
Teachers will find, edit, and create items using the 3D printer in class. Teachers will be introduced to Thingverse, TinkerCad, and MakerBot software. This is a beginning course but please have basic knowledge of how to open a zip file and how to save files.

Course Description:
Teachers will formulate ideas to utilize RCPS+ STEAM resources including Dash and Dot, OSMO, and Ozobots to teach specific content area skills. 

Course: Brain Games

Recertification Points: 20 Course Description: Teacher will learn how games can engage the brain in the classroom. Teachers will work with Smartboard templates, OSMO games, Dash and Dot to discover how these tools can engage their brain.

Course Description:
Bloxels is not just another tech-enabled toy. It's a hands-on, brains-on, creativity and technology experience. Bloxels uniquely unlocks students’ innate creativity by leveraging something they love: video games. Students can play fun games and channel their creative potential as they gain greater understanding of important topics like design logic, and computer science and demonstrate their knowledge of history, science and mathematics and more through the games they create.

Course: Make Your Life Easier with OneNote Notebooks

Course Description:
Teachers will learn to organize units in OneNote Notebook. All the resources and information about an SOL can be kept in one place accessible from anywhere. Once the Notebook is created, teachers can add new information to enhance and expand their lessons.

Course: Drop your red pen! Going paperless using RCPS Tech Tools

Course Description: Paperless classrooms have always been right around the corner, but never here and now. RCPS provides the tech tools for secondary teachers to go paperless right now. Come to this recertification class to learn the tools needed to go paperless. Once you've learned, you can start building!

Course: Adobe Spark – Alternative Assessments Made Easy

Course Description:
Teachers will learn to incorporate Spark as an alternative assessment tool in the classroom. Teachers will work with fifteen classroom students to create their own Adobe Spark that could be used as an alternative assessment.

Course Description:
Teachers never seem to have enough time to do it all.  Quizziz and Formative are tools where teachers can share and tweak assessments already created or make their own.  They will have immediate feedback upon student completion.  What a cool exit ticket from the class! 

Course: Inside/Out Learning (Using Tech for Retrieval Practice)

Course Description:
To prepare students for a test, we should be asking them to PULL information OUT of their brains, rather than trying to PUT concepts INTO their long-term memory. The very act of being quizzed actually helps students learn. Why not include low-stakes assessment as part of your everyday instruction?

Course: SMART Notebook to GENIUS Notebook

Target Audience: Teachers familiar with SMART Notebook but new to SMART Notebook 18. We will cover the new features in the software and revisit some of the old tricks of the trade.

Course Description:
Participants will explore the new features in SMART Notebook 18 and create lessons/games to enhance instruction. We will subsequently come together to share and discuss our favorite lessons and collaborate to develop a repository of effective SMART Notebook lessons and games.

Course: Be Safe! - Learn About Internet Safety and Copyright

Course Description: Teachers will learn how to be safe online and teach students good safety habits. Teachers will learn to locate royalty free content to prevent copyright infringement.

Course: Synergy Tips and Tricks

Course Description: Teachers will be trained on screen-o-matic and then we will explore Tips and Tricks in the Synergy Teacher Vue.  

Course: Technology Tools for School Administrators

Course Description: School Administrators will utilize technology tools to maximize time and effective technology integration. Tools such as Synergy, PowerSchool, and SchoolMessenger will be incorporated into this course.  One face-to-face session will be held with the remainder of the class being delivered online through Moodle.
